What makes a quality interview question?
There are several factors that play into a good interview question. It’s essential, however, to know that just one excellent interview question won’t do the trick in understanding the value a candidate may bring. When choosing interview questions try and look at the bigger picture and see how all the questions relate to one another.
Questions that are relevant, open-ended, clear, and unbiased are essential elements for interview questions. Be mindful and try to choose questions that are tailored to suit the job at hand. Leave them open-ended enough so that the candidate in question can give an answer that isn’t, “yes” or, “no.” Allow questions to be clear so that candidates can answer honestly and without hesitation or second guessing. Ready for some key interview questions?
- Explain a position where you were required to wear many hats.
- When you picture your best qualities, what are they and when did you use them in the workplace?
- Do you like working in teams or individually? Why?
- If I had all your former supervisors in a room with me and you weren’t here what would be the one thing they’d all say you could improve on as an employee?
- What learning or training would you like to get in the future?
