What is a Field Service Technician?

A Field Service Technician is a professional who performs on-site installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment or systems. They work across a wide variety of industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing, IT, automotive, and energy. Their primary role is to travel to customer locations to provide technical support and ensure that equipment functions correctly.

Duties of a Field Service Technician:

  1. Installation and Setup:
    • Install new equipment, machinery, or systems at client sites.
    • Ensure that systems are configured correctly and function as per specifications.
  2. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks to keep equipment in optimal working condition.
    • Diagnose issues and repair malfunctioning components or systems.
  3. Troubleshooting:

  4. Customer Training and Support:
    • Provide training to customers or end-users on proper use and maintenance of equipment.

  5. Documentation:
    • Record all maintenance and repair activities in service logs or reports.
    • Document installation processes, repairs, and any changes made to the systems.
  6. Inventory Management:
    • Ensure that spare parts, tools, and necessary equipment are available when needed.
    • Keep track of inventory and order parts as required for fieldwork.
  7. Adherence to Safety Standards:
    • Follow all safety protocols and industry standards to prevent accidents or equipment damage.
    • Conduct risk assessments and ensure safe working conditions while on-site.
